Dixie Electric Cooperative has always worked hard to stay involved in programs to benefit the community and our member-owners. One example of this involvement is our participation in Relay For Life throughout the counties we serve.
Relay For Life is a team event established by the American Cancer Society to raise funds for cancer research and outreach programs. We realize that most everyone today has been touched by cancer in some way, whether personally or through a friend or family member. By staying involved in Relay For Life, we can have an impact on all of our member-owners.
The Touchstone Energy cooperatives of Alabama and the Florida panhandle joined together several years ago to become title sponsor of Relay For Life events. In 2003, we sponsored more than 60 events with a donation of $265,000.
On a local basis, Dixie Electric Cooperative served as title sponsor of seven events in and around our service area, including: Bullock, Macon and Lee counties, Montgomery Metro, Montgomery South, Auburn University and the Montgomery universities.
Our employees take pride in this relationship and work hard to make sure these events are successful. Over the past three years, our employees have raised over $30,000 for the American Cancer Society. They realize that it is important to continue raising money until a cure for cancer is found.
To learn how you can join the fight, visit the American Cancer Society online at www.cancer.org or call them at 1.800.ACS.2345. Together, we can all make a difference in the fight against cancer!
